Fatuma Akasha said her sons have been engaging in legal businesses adding that they have been depending on the wealth of their father and not drugs as alleged by the Kenyan and US governments.

Fatuma further said that her late husband was dealing in car importation and selling jewelry before he was killed.

“My husband was involved in car importation and selling jewelery. He was a big supplier of gold,” said Fatuma, as quoted by The Star.

The Akasha’s have been fighting extradition for close to two years over drug trafficking claims.

Their arrest came after Mombasa High Court refused to issue warrants of arrest against different parties including Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro after they were summoned to explain the whereabouts of the Akasha's brothers, Vijaygiri Goswami an Indian national and Pakistani citizen Gulam Hussein.

The US Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara confirmed the arrival of the Akasha’s in the US following their extradition.
