President Uhuru Kenyatta has reiterated that the Jubilee government was formed to unite Kenyans after the deadly 2007/08 post-election violence.
Speaking at the Jubilee Party's National Governing Council meeting on Friday, Uhuru said that uniting with his deputy William Ruto was to give Kenya a sense of oneness to help the country move forward.
“Our journey started after the 2007 post-election violence. Ruto and I decided not to allow the country fall into the dark abyss again because of political enmity and tribal differences,” said Uhuru.
He added that the partnership would also allow Kenyans to choose a leader based on their ideologies and manifesto and not their political or tribal affiliations.
Uhuru said their intention in forming the Jubilee Coalition was to end tribal animosity.
He added, “God gave us favour to form the first government under the new constitution. We decided as students of history not to return to past atrocities.”
Uhuru said that he and Ruto decided to run a consultative government devoid of wrangles and infightings.
“From the time we were sworn in, to date, we have not had differences with DP Ruto over the running of government, unlike the Grand Coalition government. My trust in him was evident when I left him to run the country as I left for The Hague,” he stated.
The president faulted Cord for being prophets of doom in claiming that they did not have what it takes to implement the new Constitution.
He said that the desolate predictions have been disapproved.
