Three suspects accused of stealing and sexually harassing a female bus passenger inside a bus were charged in court Wednesday morning.

The video that circulated social media 3 years ago showed Nicholas Mwangi, a bus driver, Meshack Mburu the conductor, and Edward Ndung’u a petrol robbing the women (who name has been withheld) 41,700 worth of property.

The video sparked uproar and generated the hash-tag  #MyDressMyChoice. Protesters mobilized and took to the streets to condemn  the act of stripping women in public.

The three suspects appeared before Francis Andayi who is the Naiorbi Chief Magistrate to receive judgment.

"What you thought was a joke should not be taken lightly as a woman's privacy and decency should be respected at all times," the magistrate said as reported by The Star.

They were found guilty of the crime and given a five year jail sentence.

The event took place September 19 and 20 at a petrol station in Githurai 44.
