A quick intervention by Nakuru County Fire Brigade saved a local natural environment resource from further damages after the crew put out fire that had started mysteriously some few minutes to noon on Thursday at Hyrax Pre-historic Site and Museum.
According to the Public Relations Officer at the Kenya National Museums run site, Zakayo Akwaro, the source of the fire that threatened to spread at the entire site and neighbouring areas could not be established immediately and that investigations had been launched to establish the cause of the fire.
He said that the fire that lasted for about half an hour started near the site’s upper gate giving suggestions that a smoker near the road could have unknowingly started the fire.
Akwaro added that the inferno destroyed several physical structures within the site’s park apart from consuming down the natural environment vegetation cover.
“We suspect that someone could have been smoking near the edge of the park before the fire started and spread. We called the fire brigade team and it responded very fast to put the fire out,’’ said Akwaro adding that such incidences are normal during dry seasons.
