Traders at Keringet shopping centre are counting losses after a fire destroyed close to 30 shops.
The fire started on Sunday afternoon after an alleged power short-circuit.
Traders said some people took advantage of the situation to steal saved property.
"It is unfortunate that we had to call for a fire engine from Nakuru town," said a resident.
Some residents however, claimed the fire was as a result of a ‘curse’ over gambling businesses in the area that has left men basking in the ‘casinos’.
Residents who did not wish to be named said elders were angry at the betting craze and had asked the owner to move it.
