The Organization national chairman Rahab Mwikali said the intention is to empower women to save through village Saccos and ultimately uplift them economically.

Ms Mwikali said the Saccos will serve business and professional women who have the desire to improve their businesses or build assets that give them economic returns.

She said the process has gained momentum in the country and urged counties who have not conducted harambees to jump-start the process to hurry up.

“The economic pillar among the women is picking up well. The Saccos will be formed from all the 1,450 wards in the country, 290 sub counties and 47 counties for the benefit for economic empowerment for the women of this country,” she said.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu on Wednesday, the chairperson said the Organization has strived over the years to build economic, political and social pillars of women.

She mourned the late former First Lady Lucy Kibaki whom she described as an icon for the institution for marriage and family.

“Mama Lucy was a very good role model for our children because she showed the young couples how to stand by your husband and wife and protect the institution of the marriage,” she said.

Mwikali said MYWO remains steadfast in protecting family values and urged women to follow the footsteps of the late Mama Lucy Kibaki.
