Controversial Uasin Gishu farmer Jackson Kibor’s youngest wife, Eunita has sued the Standard Media group for defamation.
The 40-year-old fourth wife of Kibor alleges that the print production department, The Standard, referred to her as a gold digger.
She has filed an application with the Eldoret Magistrate demanding an apology and compensation for alleged damages arising from the story published online.
In her application, Eunita accuses the paper and its writer of printing and publishing the article that portrayed her as 'a money-oriented' woman taking advantage of her elderly rich husband’s wealth.
“On or about October 15, 2017, the first and second defendants in the first defendant’s online portal and/or publication jointly, falsely and maliciously printed and published an article titled 'The gripping Jackson Kibor – Yunita drama series continues' over me…” read part of the application.
According to Kibor's wife, she has suffered serious injuries and that she continues to be hurt in character and reputation because the article exposed her to public ridicule, hatred, and contempt by the public.
She is also demanding that The Standard pulls down the defamatory statement from the website, besides requesting the court to issue a permanent injunction barring the media house from publishing further defamatory information about her.
Eunita married Mzee Kibor, 86, in 2002 in a traditional wedding ceremony and they have five children.
