He said the Sh42 billion water project is essential in resolving water problem, and affirmed that he would work hand in hand with the national government to ensure the project is a success.

Speaking when he attended a church service at St. Barnabas ACK, Voi, Deputy President William Ruto assured Taita Taveta residents that the project would commence this year as the finance agreement is complete.

"The water will serve Taita Taveta residents first before it is supplied to Mombasa. This is our commitment. This plan started when the governor was the Chairman Coast Water Service Board," said Ruto on Sunday.

Ruto arrived at the Ikanga Airstrip a day after visiting Kwale County and Mombasa County where he commissioned various infrastructure development projects.

He was welcomed by Samboja and other local leaders.
