A High Court ruling has found former Tourism PS, Rebbeca Nabutola and former Kenya Tourism Board managing director, Achieng Ong’ong’a guilty of abuse of office.
High Court judge, Ngenye Macharia gave Nabutola and Ong’ong’a a sh500, 000 fine each to earn their freedom back or a 1-year jail term.
The two had moved to the High Court to challenge a verdict that was passed onto them by a lower court where they were found guilty of defrauding the Tourism Board of sh8.9 million way back in 2009. Nabutola had been given a 4-year sentence whereas, Ong'onga had been given 3 years, in additon, Nabutola and Ong’ong’a had been fined an additional sh2 million and sh1.5 million respectively.
The two had been fined following recommendations by the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission which is now the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over defrauding charges.
