In an interview with Radio Citizen on Friday NACADA Chairman Ayub Gethire said that young people should support the Ministry of Health’s directive saying that they do not understand the effects of what they are indulging in.

“I don’t think they know (the youth). The truth is that they are mistaken. When they see someone who is struggling to recover in a rehabilitation center that’s when they might learn,” Gethire said.

He said that the youth should not try to engage in the illegal sale and consumption of shisha since they will be ‘inviting’ cancer.

“We have seen so many people getting affected in so many ways. Some have found themselves seeking cancer treatment in India, the truth is that if you use shisha you are a candidate for treatment and rehabilitation,” he added.

In addition, he urged the politicians and other leaders on not only opposing the government for the sake of it but should support the idea.

“Everyone has a responsibility, with the internet you can check the side effects of this substance. So we should not just oppose the idea because you are against the government or you just want to be heard.”
