The National Authority for Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) has rolled out a plan to determine the prevalence of drug abuse in schools across the country.
Speaking at Nakuru town on Tuesday, Nacada’s chief executive officer William Okedi, said the anti-drugs agency is working with county governments to establish alleged use of drugs and substance abuse by students.
“We have rolled out a campaign to determine use of drugs among students in schools, colleges and universities,” Okedi said.
“We need to understand the enormity of the issue so we can address it sufficiently.”
Okedi revealed that the agency had received reports of some schools where drug abuse was rampant.
The official said that remedial measures will be formulated and implemented in schools where drug use will be found to be rampant.
He, however, blamed parents for failing to provide the required guidance and counselling to their children, especially those in primary and secondary schools.
Okedi added that lack of guidance has seen youths explore the world on their own and engage in drug abuse.
