Plans to establish an anti-drug abuse enforcement agency are almost complete, National Campaign against Drug Abuse (NACADA) chairman John Mututho has said.

Mututho who was speaking to reporters at Naivasha town, noted that most work on the establishment of the agency are complete.

He stated that they are only waiting for the publication of the proposal before they present it to Parliament.

The Nacada boss said that once established the anti-drug abuse unit will greatly help in fight against drug abuse.

“We are finalising on the proposal to establish an anti-drug agency with Nacada,” he said.

Mututho noted that the agency will comprise of trained officers who will be conducting inspections across the country.

The chairman intimated that the war against alcohol and illicit brews will be won if government agencies work together.

He also said that there is need for more policies to regulate the alcoholic drinks industry, asking for political goodwill if the fight is to be effective.

At the same time he warned those planning to engage in excessive drinking this festive season saying they are in for a rude shock.

He indicated that Nacada and the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are collaborating to tame driving while under the influence of alcohol.
