All schools will have to include lessons on drug abuse prevention in their curriculum if plans by the anti-drug agency succeed. National Agency for the Campaign against Drug Abuse (Nacada) said that the plan was aimed at ensuring that school goers are exposed to the ideas of drug prevention early at their tender stages. Speaking at her Kisumu office today, Esther Okenye, the agency’s Nyanza and Western regional manager said the on-going review is aimed at making sure learners get acquainted with what goes on in the drug abuse and prevention world. “We are participating in the on-going review of the curriculum with a view to including drug abuse prevention in the school curriculum,” Okenye said. Okenye said that apart from the review of the curriculum, the agency will work with the county governments on their alcohol and drug abuse policies and legislation. “Nacada will work with the counties to ensure that they are able to draft their drug abuse polices and legislations. This will include the domestication of Alcohol Drinks Act to the County-specific needs” she said.
