Nairobi is grappling with litter in the CBD because of businesses in the town centre.
This is according to Governor Mike Sonko.
Sonko laid the blame squarely on the traders, mainly hotels, saying they are responsible for the illegal dumping of waste that happens in town.
“They pay street children to pick up garbage from the backdoors of hotels at night and dump it in the lanes...” Sonko said in a Tuesday tweet.
“I have authorised my inspectorate department to arrest anyone doing illegal dumping, starting tonight," he added.
The governor said it was the responsibility of every Nairobian to ensure the city is clean.
“If you spot any illegal dumping near your place of work, kindly inform me through 0722886600,” he tweeted.
