Nairobi city is set to be water sufficient, among other several Kenyan cities by the year 2020, according to the government officials.

A brief to president Uhuru Kenyatta by the Ministry of water and irrigation officials, show the initiated projects to combat the 250 million litres of water, the city faces.

At the moment, Nairobi receives a daily water supply of 520 million litres of water, which is far below the demand of 750 million litres, according to CS Eugene Wamalwa.

But now Nairobians have a reason to smile as the soon to be completed Northen Water Tunnel from Murang’a, is expected to increase the water supply to Nairobi by 140 million litres.

To bridge the itching water crisis in the city, the completion of Karimeni 2 and Ruiru 2 dams under construction, will boost the city with 100 million litres of water.

Other cities set to benefit from the government water projects include; Mombasa, Kisumu and Nakuru town.

Completion of Mwache dam and the Minga springs 2 water pipeline projects, are projected to end Mombasa city’s water deficit.

While the completion of the Kisumu supply water project and Itare dam will help alleviate the water crisis in Kisumu city and Nakuru town respectively.

There is an ongoing construction of 60 mega dams spread over all regions in Kenya by the government.
