Doctors in Nairobi have agreed to return to work after President Uhuru Kenyatta's directive to resume duty.
According to Nairobi County Health executive Benard Muia, some 10 doctors have already begun working in three of the county's level four hospitals.
Six of them resumed work at the Pumwani Maternity Hospital, as two went back at Mama Lucy Hospital and another two at Mbagathi District Hospital.
"A number of doctors in Nairobi have resumed work despite the ongoing medics strike and we are calling on the rest to emulate the same as directed by the President," said Muia.
"We have no time to waste with striking medics because we have been patient with them and people have suffered enough, there are a lot of doctors who want to work in Nairobi and we will sack those on strike and vet others that are willing to apply," he added.
The county had in January issued the doctors show-cause letters and withheld their salaries over participation in the "illegal" strike.
Muia said that those who had resumed work were complaining to him that they were receiving threats from officials from Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU).
"Some of them came to my office and told me they were being threatened. But I want to assure them we shall provide security for anybody who is willing to resume duty, thus they should not fear," added Muia.
President Kenyatta and the Council of Governors last week directed that all negotiations be halted and that they should resume duty or face the sack.
