Despite heavy floods caused by rains in the rainy season, Nairobi county does not harvest this water for future use.
This is according to a revelation made on the World Water Day marked in Nairobi under this year's theme “time to save water. Re-use to conserve’.
According to Nairobi county executive for water and environment Peter Kimori who spoke at the inspectorate grounds in Dagoretti, the city largely has to depend on water from outside.
He added that rain water resource is left for waste due to lack of conservation points.
“The water you see running in Nairobi is surface water which we do not use in our homes for drinking or cleaning…we outsource water from other counties,” Eng Kimori said.
He also said that Nairobi is trying to create ways to conserve the water after carrying out public awareness and urged people to tap rain water from the roof.
Kimori added that the city is constructing a sewerage and recycling plant from where rain water will be channeled to ease the burden of treated water.
