Nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi who is poised to be Nairobi county assembly speaker. Photo/StarMatopeni ward MCA elect Abdi Guyo has dismissed reports that President Uhuru Kenyatta forced Jubilee elected MCAs to elect Beatrice Elachi as Nairobi county assembly speaker.
Guyo, who is expected to be the majority leader in the assembly after Jubilee won most of the seats, said the MCAs agreed to elect Elachi without being coerced by President Kenyatta.
“Uhuru did not force us to elect Elachi. We actually agreed on our own to come up with a line up that will oversee the affairs of the House,” he said.
The Head of State met with all elected Nairobi Jubilee leaders at State House on Saturday, after which a deal was struck on who should head the county assembly.
Elachi would be the speaker, Guyo the majority leader and Ngara MCA-elect Mwaura Chege the majority chief whip.
Jubilee clinched 45 out of the 85 elective seats in the August 8 polls. The higher number of the Jubilee MCAs makes it possible for the MCAs to elect a speaker of their choice.
