Members of County Assembly (MCAs) in Nairobi have been warned against storming into private property in the city.

The county government, through its legal department, urged ward representatives to liaise with it before taking action on any property.

This is after MCAs on December 7, stormed a property in Westlands, where they ordered cars to be clamped and assigned a parking attendant at the premises, Saturday Standard reports.

This prompted Sato Properties Ltd, owners of LR No 1870/1/217 11 No 98583/1 in Westlands to lodge a complaint with the county government.

"Some MCAs came on the property last Friday claiming that it belonged to Nairobi County, yet they had no legal documents. They then with the help of your Inspectorate Department started clamping the cars on this property. Now a person from your parking department is permanently on this property illegally collecting money from anyone who is parking his or her vehicle on the said premises," says a letter by Sato Properties' lawyer A B Shah to the Nairobi County government's Legal department.

After the complaint, the county government confirmed the property belongs to Sato.

"If a county officer did enter your premises as alleged, we have advised the relevant departments that the same is private property," states a letter signed by the Nairobi County government's Legal Affairs official VA Oyangi dated December 29, 2017.

Umoja 2 Ward MCA Joseph Ndonji, in late November, requested for a statement from the Sectoral Committee on Planning and Housing on the status of the property.

Ndonji claimed that the parcel of land was the property of the county government.
