Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has maintained that lawyer Miguna Miguna remains his first choice for deputy governor.
Speaking on Sunday during a church service, the governor said some unmanned cartels were keen to have him fail to deliver on his promises to the people of Nairobi.
“I have chosen Miguna as my deputy and it is the assembly that will decide,” Sonko said at AIPCA in Njiru ward, as quoted by nation.co.ke.“I will not give room to those who want to derail my vision. My focus is service delivery to Nairobians,” he said.
Many members of the county assembly on the Jubilee side have opposed the controversial nomination, saying Miguna, the self-declared general of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), is not eligible to occupy the position since he is not a member of the ruling party.
Assembly speaker Beatrice Elachi has, however, said the MCAs will vet Miguna when he returns to Kenya.
The nominee, who was deported to Canada by the government over alleged anomalies in his dual citizenship, has said Sonko did not consult him before making the decision public.
The position fell vacant following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January.
