The choice of the next governor of Nairobi is a hot issue. A lot has not been analysed with regards to the 2013 race for the city's top seat and how it might affect this year's election.
Nairobi residents have decried the deplorable state and management of the once vibrant city under the sun, when the fondly remembered town clerk John Gakuo was in charge.
The facilities that were bad before the 2013 elections are now in worse state and all the current governor Evans Kidero can say, is how Nairobi county has improved in world rankings, albeit not as a result of any input from him.
What analysts are looking at is the entry of former social media President Peter Kenneth, into the governor’s race while ignoring the underdog that is Miguna Miguna, who has been making inroads, albeit arrogantly, into some middle class residents’ hearts who think that he might be the bitter pill that the doctor prescribed to take care of the disease known as cartels.
What remains to be seen is who will clinch the nomination ticket for Jubilee party. NASA has clearly shown that they are complacent with the mismanagement of Nairobi, as they have not fronted a candidate to challenge Evans Kidero.
What remains to be seen is the underhand tactics that will be deployed by Sonko and Kenneth’s teams to clinch the Jubilee party ticket.
It would be wise for friends and foes to remember that Sonko got the third highest number of votes after the two presidentialcandidates in the 2013 elections .
The big question remains, will Sonko clinch the ticket or will he run as an independent candidate and embarrass the ruling party?
