Nairobi has been ranked 10th in the 2016 Global destination cities index most visited cities in Africa.
According to the MasterCard Worldwide 2016 global destination Cities Index Johannesburg was ranked the first City with 3.6 million visitors mainly from Europe.
Cairo was second with 1.55 million visitors followed by Cape town with 1.37 million visitors, Casablanca came in Fourth with 1.05 million visitors, then Durban with 831,051 visitors, Accra stands at sixth with 761,872 visitors, Lagos followed with 711,209 visitors, then Entebbe with 616,700 visitors, Dakar was ranked ninth with 590,478 visitors and finally Nairobi closed the top ten most visited City with 323,859 visitors.
Nairobi 10th position might have been attributed to international forums and visits by global leaders among them outgoing US President Barrack Obama who attended the sixth Global Entrepreneurship Summit in July 2015.
The MasterCard Worldwide 2016 Global Destination Cities Index 2016 ranked 132 most visited cities around the world with focus being on the volume of visitors, expenditure estimates, the overnight international visitor arrivals and their cross-border spending to understand how people travel and spend around the world.
