The fund will be used to address urbanisation, aging infrastructure, flooding, terrorism and the massive growth of informal settlements in the capital city.

Speaking in Nairobi on Wednesday during the crowning function, the 100 Resilient Cities president, Michael Berkowitz explained that by joining the network, Nairobi City would benefit from funding, developmental tools, technical expertise and many other resources to help the town build resilience in its bid to beat urban challenges.

"We selected Nairobi because it is a major economic and political city in East Africa which is faced by numerous challenges emerging from urbanisation. Nairobi is joining our global network to take all the necessary steps that will see it build back stronger and also to learn from other cities around the world facing these similar issues," said Berkowitz.

During the function, Kidero also hinted that the selection of Nairobi would help the county government in addressing immediate needs of the capital town such as erecting up quality and modern infrastructure.
