Class eight candidates are set to begin their KCPE exam today amid political tensions over the repeat presidential election last Thursday.

Nairobi county has experienced a huge chunk of the post-election chaos with areas like Kibera, Kawangware and Mathare experiencing most of this heat.

In Kibera, protesting gangs intruded and vandalised school property at the Raila Odinga Education Centre.

The government has however assured parents and candidates that violence and the political tensions do not ruin the national exam.

Education CS Fred Matiang’i revealed that tight security measures have been put in place to curb any disturbance directed at the candidates, supervisors or the general exam environment.

"All centers will be required to begin their examinations as scheduled in the timetables to avoid any cases that might arise to compromise the security and credibility of the examination,” he said.

Some candidates are expected to sit their first papers in the 28,566 centres spread across the nation for three days.
