Nairobi businessman Paul Kobia was on Monday charged with kidnapping and later assaulting a Congolese businessman.

The court was told that the Nairobi senator aspirant with the help of his bodyguards tried to kidnap and assault the Congolese and unlawfully fired in the air.

Kobia took plea after his attorney Wandungi Kiraithe told a Milimani court that his client was fit to do so as he had been under treatment at Guru Nanak hospital after being involved in a road accident on March 11.

The court heard that Kobia abducted Blanchard Londole with his four guards Alvin Anzaya, John Mutwiri, Martin Mwangi and Nelson Moyi on March 9.

They are said to have picked Londole from Super Lodge along Kindaruma and taken him to Kobia's house in Kileleshwa.

It was here, the court was told, that the four bodyguards together with other who did not appear in court assaulted Londole.

Kobia reportedly gave Londole Sh40 million for gold and the said abduction was to see the Congolese return this money since the gold was not delivered.

The five denied the charges and were released on a Sh500,000 cash bail or Sh800,000 bond.
