National Super League side Nairobi Stima are eyeing promotion to topflight football ahead of the new season, club chair Vincent Onyango has revealed.
The club narrowly missed promotion last season, despite performing exemplary.
The side was on the verge of promotion in 2017 until the later stages of the season, managing to finish fifth in the standings with 70 points.
"We played well up to the last hurdle but it was not to be. We did well and scooped 70 points and by any standards that should have earned us promotion to the KPL. But it goes to show just how competitive the NSL is as any of the top five teams were all in the bracket to earn promotion" Onyango divulged to the media.
"We hope for the best this season and we will give it another shot. We want to improve our performance from last season,” he added.
The club has, however, been dealt a huge blow ahead of the new season, following the departure of former KPL Defender of the Year Ivan Anguyo.
"He left at the end of the season at the expiry of his contract. He is the only high profile player to leave the club as a large chunk of last year’s squad is still intact," Onyango remarked.
