Nairobi city residents are expected to go without water for three days this week after the county's Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company NWSCO announced plans to shut down for maintenance.

NWSCO announced on Sunday that the said disruption of supply will begin on April 6 and run to April 8.

This comes even as Nairobi grapples with an acute water shortage after the country's long drought resulted into a drastic drop in the water levels at the Ndakaini Dam.

According to a statement by NWSCO Head of Corporate Affairs Mbaruku Vyakweli, the interruption will see the Mataara-Ngethu raw water pipeline shut down to fix leakages.

The city reportedly loses 10.45 per cent of its total water in form of leakages and the maintenance aims at reducing this to a low of 5.59 per cent.

“The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company would like to inform its esteemed customers that there will be an interruption…this will improve on the efficiency of services to our customers,” said the statement.

The areas that will feel the cut include the entire Nairobi County, Kiambu town and sections of Machakos county (Mlolongo and Athi River).

Residents have been urged to therefore use water sparingly and reserve more before and during this period.
