The meat and meat products being consumed by a large population of Nairobians is unsafe.
This is according to a report by City Hall.
While giving the revelation, the county ordered closing down of illegal slaughterhouses in the city within two months, failure to which those working there would face legal consequences.
According to agriculture county executive Danvas Makori, unlicensed abattoirs especially in Kiamaiko and Burma markets have been posing numerous health risks to Nairobians.
He said their operations were a barrier to guaranteeing Nairobians safe meat.
“We have numerous illegal blocks especially in Kiamaiko and Burma and we are giving notice that all those enterprises should be closed down. The slaughterhouses also do not meet the required operation standards and the meat they sell is not inspected,” he stated.
