Nairobi was ranked number four in the planned rooms category while Lagos took the top spot at 4,000.
There are 64,231 rooms in 365 hotels under construction on the continent in 2016 according to Jumia’s Hospitality Report Africa.
The leading hotels reported to be expanding across Africa include Best Western, Marriott International, and Hilton.
“Nigeria and Angola have the highest number of hotel chains, with 61 and 56 hotels respectively; accounting for almost 30 percent of the total pipelines. There are 20 percent more in 2016 and 2015,” reads the report according to Capital FM.
Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe were listed as the top destinations for international arrival in 2015.
However, Nairobi has managed to fight its way to the top in the major business destination category alongside Lagos, Abidjan, Johannesburg, Cairo and Accra.
Other destinations listed with the largest increase in international arrivals during 2016 include Ghana, Mauritius, Sudan, Seychelles, and Zimbabwe. The region leading in source marketing is Europe, and Asia Pacific was listed as the fastest growing market.
