A Naivasha bishop has become the first religious leader in the area to earn a doctorate degree.

Dr Joseph Wambugu of the Family Care Centre got his PhD through distance learning at the University of Texas.

The religious leader that he got the degree to increase his skills as a pastor. He challenged other religious leaders to continue with education, saying that every day presents a new opportunity for growth.

“In school, we learn so much.  Mostly about how to relate and interact with many individuals. This helps us in our capacity to serve others,” he added.

Wambugu added that he will encourage his church followers to pursue education since professional qualification papers are important in the current job market.

“Education is vital in our society. We are trying to have a kitty for our rehabilitated boys and girls so they can access university education which will help them in the future, especially in securing jobs,” he said.
