Motorists using the busy Naivasha -Kirima-engineer highway have raised concerns over the state of the road after the main bridge linking the three key towns developed some cracks.
According to one of the area leaders Danson Karanja said the bridge was constructed in 1961 by the colonial government as a one way and has never been expanded.
Karanja added that the contractor who recently tarmarked the road ignored its expansion noting that vehicles using the area have to cross it one at a time.
According to him, heavy commercial vehicles ferrying agricultural produce from Kinangop could soon ground if the bridge collapses.
At the same time Karanja said all the feeder roads in the area were in bad state and blamed local political leadership for the current mess.
He further added that major roads that serve Karate and surrounding areas were deplorable noting that they have been worsened by the ongoing rains.
His sentiments were echoed by another leader Peter Kamau who said that the current rains had made the road impassable.
On the bridge, Kamau said that several people have lost their lives at the section noting that their pleas to have it extended have always been ignored.
