The county government has thwarted an attempt to close the largest slaughterhouse in Naivasha after water supply was restored recently.
The department of veterinary had threatened to close the abattoir after water supply was disconnected by the Naivasha Water and Sanitation Company over a debt of over Sh2m.
A trader from the facility, Ali Mohammed, said there was ample water after the impasse which adversely affected operations was resolved.
“Water supply to the slaughterhouse has now been restored after several weeks and operations are now back to normal,” he said.
In a notice signed by the sub-county veterinary officer Miriam Nakeel, the department has warned that it would close down the slaughterhouse so as to protect the public from hazardous condition from it.
In the notice, the officer said sanitary and hygiene could not be observed without water and hence the need to close the facility.
