According to the area Administration Police Commander Njenga Maingi, he has issued a directive to his officers to impound any donkey straying in the area.

He adds that action will be taken against the animal owners.

Maingi said that cases of slaughtering of the beast of burden were caused by their owners as they were neglected.

Briefing the press Maingi said that, they will arrest the animal and later hands them to Naivasha Municipal Council where the owners will charge 1,000 to part away with the animal.

Naivasha Officer Commanding Police Station John Owuoth said police would not guard the animals as demanded by owners.

“The OCS’ work was to provide security to members of the public not livestock. We will impound any that will be seen in the compound,” he said.

Most residents have however complained against the directive saying that they had rented houses and their landlords could not allow them to have the animals in their compounds.
