Speaking to journalists in Naivasha on Monday, the more than 100 farmers mainly from Mwiciringiri, Nyamathi and Karai pointed fingers at Ketraco of trying to make major decisions without involving them.

According to Julius Kimani, who is a farmer from Karai, the compensation that they had earlier received did not match the size of the land that was being taken away from them.

“We are now calling for a review of the agreement. I got Sh327,000 and am now wondering where in the whole of Naivasha I can get a land with that money,” said Kimani.

David Njuguna, who is a farmer from Nyamathi said that most of them were left in the dark during the negotiations.

“Majority of us have very small pieces of land and when about 60 metres is taken away, it means you are left landless,” said Njuguna.

Nakuru County Assembly Majority Leader Samuel Waithuki who had accompanied the farmers agreed with them, pointing a finger at the government institutions of trying to oppress the farmers.
