Naivasha Member of Parliament John Karanja said that the town had been experiencing a huge tourist turn over due to the increased security in the area.

Karanja cited that the town had recently acquired four police posts, including one in Kihoto, Karai, kInungi and near the Buffalo Mall.

“We want to ensure tourists that the town is safe. Considering that the hotel industry is booming heavily and many people are viewing it as a major holiday destination, we are prioritising our security. In the festive season we want to ensure that we have enough patrol and every citizen can move and enjoy himself freely,” said Karanja.

He was speaking to the press in the town where he urged citizens to be vigilant in matters of security.

“Security begins with you. One should take the initiative not only to know their neighbors as per the Nyumba Kumi Initiative but also to report any ugly incidences to the police. Even suspicious people should be noted and reported,” added Karanja.

Hepraised the police force in the area, citing that they had tried to curb incidences of crime that the town was previously known for.

“The town is now experiencing peace and quietness. The joint effort by the police to ensure this has been possible is really encouraging,” he added.
