Naivasha leaders have rubbished calls for a referendum saying that they are uncalled for and unnecessary.
Lakeview Member of County Assembly (MCA) Simon Wanango said that the leaders calling for the referendum were unrealistic and had ill motives.
Wanango said: “They are just bored and lazy and choose to harass and intimidate individuals. It is totally uncalled for. The government is clearly working well as it has been indicated by the growth and stability of the country. President Uhuru Kenyatta was recently named the third best performing president in Africa.”
He added, “It is obvious that the Opposition is just looking for means to have people know that they still exist. Otherwise they do not have any clear motive or mandate.”
The leaders argued that one year was not enough to gauge a government and term it as failed.
“It is unfortunate that some few individuals are interfering with the stability of the country. As a country we are not ready for a referendum and for them to exaggerate the need for one is unfortunate,” he added.
Eunice Njeri, a businesswoman, said that the country was not ready for a referendum considering that the general election was held last year.
“This is a clear waste of taxpayers’ money. They should understand that the government does not have such money to waste,” she added.
The leaders were speaking during the graduation of Dr Bishop Joseph Wambugu at the Family Care Centre in Naivasha.
