Naivasha sub-county Deputy Commissioner Silvano Mutembei has encouraged the area locals living close to National Park and Wildlife Sanctuaries to coexist peacefully with wildlife.
Speaking at Moi Ndambi after holding a consultative meeting with Wildlife Stakeholders on Saturday, Mutembei said locals must learn to peacefully co-exist with Wildlife.
The commissioner observed that cases of stray Wildlife being killed have risen in the past three months.
“We want to encourage locals to co-exist peacefully with Wild animals,” said Mutembei, adding that the government is working on measures that will curb straying of animals.
The commissioner urged locals to be immediately reporting cases of stray animals to the relevant authorities instead of killing them.
Mutembei stated that Wildlife sector is crucial to the sub-county’s economy and that Wild animals must be protected adding that they will partner with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to crackdown on poachers.
He said poachers are criminals that should be dealt with according. “We have in place policies that will streamline war against poaching,” revealed Mutembei.
The commissioner further appealed to residents to embrace peace and help police in the fight against criminals.
He however lauded residents for their support on security matters noting that crime has declined, thanks to the relationship between the police and the locals.
