Officials from the Naivasha Sub County Public Health Department has urged bar and lodging operators to look for effective ways of discarding of used condoms.
Sub County Public Health officer, Caroline Vata said current disposal methods were hazardous and has elicited outcry from parents and church leaders.
At a press conference with the operators she asked them to urgently devise ways on how to manage the problem.
She said statistics showed there was high usage of condoms in the town, hence the need to manage the disposal methods.
She said most of the back street and footpaths are littered with used condoms, adding there was need to develop a strategy on how to manage the issue.
At the same time, Vata has launched hand washing exercise in the five divisions within the district. Vata said they are teaching the public the art of washing hands, especially using running water to avoid re-contamination.
