A man who was caught slaughtering a dog has been fined Sh20,000 by a Naivasha court.
Anthony Karanja was charged by his own plea of guilty at the Naivasha law courts. He was accused of possessing unwholesome food within Naivasha.
Appearing before the Naivasha principal magistrate Esther Kimilu, Karanja was charged that on July 31, 2014 at Maili Mbili area of the sub-county, he was found in possession of unwholesome meat comprising a dog carcass which had been declared by officials as unfit for human consumption.
The court was told that the accused was arrested by Naivasha police officers following a tip off from members of the public, who had witnessed him slaughtering the said animal. The accused was later arrested and escorted to the Naivasha court and charged accordingly.
Failure to raise the Sh20,000 fine will see him locked behind bars for three months.
