A 47-year-old man was on Tuesday jailed for two years after the court found him guilty of stealing a wheelbarrow at a construction site in Naivasha.
Julius Mwangi who was convicted by Naivasha magistrate, Esther kimilu was charged with stealing a wheelbarrow worth Sh4500 belonging to Monicah Kamene on January 23, 2015 at Karangita shopping centre.
He also faced an alternative charge which stated that on the same date and place he was found in possession of two stolen bags of cement.
The complainant told the court that on the material date, she had hired some people to do some work where she was putting up a building.
"The workers left for lunch and forgot to lock the store where the wheelbarrow and other materials had been stored. When the workers reported back, they discovered that one wheelbarrow was missing and a bodaboda operator told them he had seen the accused ferrying two bags of cement using the wheelbarrow,” said Kamene.
The workers caught up with him and escorted him to Naivasha police station where he was detained.
Passing the sentence, Kimilu said, the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt since the accused could not account for the goods.
