Naivasha Ward MCA Simon Wanyoike has blamed poor planning of Naivasha town on perennial floods that occur in the area.
Addressing Journalists in Naivasha on Saturday, Wanyoike said that the town was poorly planned exposing it to floods whenever it rains. He now wants the Nakuru County government to draft a new infrastructural plan for the sub-county.
He observed that buildings are being constructed without proper drainage systems and water tunnels.
“The cause of flooding is as a result of poor planning of Naivasha, we need a new plan to curb perennial flooding and other effects caused by heavy rain,” said Wanyoike.
Naivasha has experienced heavy rains in the past week that has resulted into floods. Wanyoike said that the other solution to the problem will be construction of proper drainage systems.
MCA Wanyoike observed that the drainage system is in a sorry state and called on the county government to repair them immediately.
At the same time, the MCA has said that the presence of Naivasha dump is a threat to the health of locals adding that with rain water mixing with garbage, cases of cholera and other diseases are likely to erupt.
The MCA asked the county to expedite plans of re-locating the dumpsite, especially now that cholera outbreak has been reported in some parts of the county.
