[Photo: the-star.co.ke]The government will spend Sh50 million to finance the first ever census on street children countrywide.Street Families Rehabilitation Trust Fund director Robert Njogu has said that the census will be conducted in January 2018 by the Department of Special programmes in collaboration with United Nations Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF).The government will contribute Sh35 million while UNICEF will donate the remaining Sh15 million, the Star said“We expect full details of the census by February after the exercise is undertaken on January,” Njogu said.Njogu made the revelation during a workshop at the Fish Eagle Hotel in Naivasha on Monday. He said lack of data on street families had affected plans to assist them.He noted that the census had been delayed by the prolonged electioneering period while adding that more than 35 organisations have contributed Sh235 million to help street families.
