Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has appealed to needy but bright students in Maai Mahiu and Naivasha to apply for bursaries funds.
Speaking when he donated school uniforms and shoes to pupils at Ngeiya primary school in Mai Mahiu on Friday, Mbugua indicated that the county has a lot of money to give in terms of bursaries.
He noted that Naivasha and Maai Mahiu are among areas where students are not seeking bursary funds.
Mbugua intimated that the essence of bursary fund was to see needy but bright students access education.
“I am not happy with Naivasha and Mai Mahiu students because of their reluctance to apply for bursary funds,” said Mbugua.
The governor said that the areas will lag behind in education if students are not willing to apply for funds.
Mbugua said that the government has disbursed Sh1 million to every sub-county to cater for bursaries.
He said the allocation could be increased if the county assembly passes the budgetary allocations.
“We want our education to study and help us curb the social problems facing the society,” he said.
Mbugua said that education is a key factor in development and that his government will continue to take it seriously.
