The irate herders said that despite the harsh weather killing tens of their animals, the state was tormenting them further by allegedly destroying the properties.

According to Andrew Ole Koisamou from the Centre for Pastoralists Development (CEPAD), the herders had in the last fortnight suffered huge losses.

Koisamou called for the immediate end to the harassment and called on the police to use the energy for other positive causes.

He said that the Eburru forest was under threat from illegal loggers and charcoal burners yet the state was allegedly not acting but attacking innocent herders.

Koisamou added that time was up for the flower farmers and hotels to open up corridors leading to Lake Naivasha.

Naivasha sub-county Commissioner Mohammed Kemboi announced a major operation to flush out hundreds of pastoralists who have invaded the district.

“The herders from Narok District are causing unnecessary tension and have caused wanton destruction of food,” said the Commissioner.

According to Kemboi, the herders had invaded parts of Kiambogo area destroying crops ready for harvest.

Kemboi called for the respect of private land adding that the herders had to lease grazing land or move their animals out.
