Police in Naivasha on Thursday confiscated three vehicles including a top-of-the-range car after they were recovered hidden in an abandoned yard in one of the town’s estates.
The brand new vehicles were found in an abandoned yard near Mirera estate on the Moi South Lake Road following a tip off from members of the public.
It was not clear if the vehicles had been diverted while on transit or were part of those listed by KRA as having been imported illegally.
According to residents, the three vehicles were driven into the abandoned yard on Wednesday evening during a heavy downpour in the area.
Residents who noticed the suspicious incident informed the Administration Police officers who later liaised with their Flying Squad colleagues.
Addressing the press at the scene, the officer in charge of the Flying Squad unit in Naivasha Singi Nzioka said no one had been arrested in the compound.
He said all the three vehicles did not have number plates, adding that none had any ownership documents or road licences.
“After receiving a tip off from members of the public, we moved into the ground and we have recovered three suspicious vehicles hidden here,” he said.
Singi said they would liaise with KRA to determine if the three vehicles were among those blacklisted as being in the country illegally.
“We have towed the vehicles to Naivasha police station as part of our investigations as we seek the owners,” he said.
