Naivasha residents have expressed their deep concern over sanitation and provision of basic resources including water.
Speaking yesterday in a vox pop conducted on several individuals in Kabati and Kihoto estate, Naivasha, residents decried rampant water shortages, poor drainage systems, poor medical services and lack of drugs in most public hospitals.
“We are afraid of outbreak of waterborne diseases especially during this rainy season as the drainage systems are very poor. Open sewages are flowing outside the door steps where the children play.
We wonder what the government has done to curb this problem because it has been there for so long.” Harrison Muya, a resident of Kabati estate, lamented.
Rachael Wamaitha, a mother of two, who resides in Site estate around the town, said that due to water shortages, they are forced to buy water from the vendors who charge exorbitant prices and the commodity is of doubtable hygienic conditions
“Some of these water vendors are smokers, and are dirty yet they handle the water we use, this could transmit diseases. The town inspectorate has closed the source near the district hospital where we used to access clean water. The MP should come to our rescue.” she said.
One Rose wangechi, from Kihoto estate complained of poor medical services in most of the public hospitals in the constituency. I had to take my five year old son to hospital last week. When I went to the district hospital, I was given a prescription for the drugs to buy which cost me sh. 2500. The services are poor and there are no drugs.” She also lamented.
The constituents are now appealing to the area MP John Kihagi to intervene and accused him of neglecting them.
