Farmers and hoteliers in Naivasha have now enjoined the Naivasha Business Community is challenging the national government to rehabilitate Moi South Lake road that is in deplorable condition.
According to the group’s representative, Njuguna Kamau, flower farms and hoteliers in the region are losing millions of shillings every month.
The move by the consortium of farmers and the hoteliers comes barely a week after Matatu operators using the busy road threatened to stop paying revenue to Nakuru County until the road is repaired.
“As a business community we have come from a hard period caused by the political impasse and the only gift we can get from the government at this time is by rehabilitating this road,” he said.
He said that they had raised the issue with both the national and county governments but no action had been taken with the investors encountering huge loses.
“This road connects tens of flower farms, hotels and Olkaria power plants to Nairobi but it has been neglected for years with some sections impassable mainly when it rains,” he said.
Local and foreign tourists also use the road to reach the famous Hellsgate national park and the largest power producing company KenGen which produces about 80 per cent of the electricity consumed in the country.
