Naivasha residents trooped to various joints into the lakeside town to celebrate the swearing ceremony of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

Goats were slaughtered, songs sang and poems recited as residents, young and old, joined Kenyans in Kasarani Stadium in the celebrations

Of keen interest were tens of mechanics who closed shop and converged at an open field to congratulate the President.

Known for their oily and greasy aprons, the group slaughtered several goats and ate together as one community.

According to them, this day was a blessing despite their political affiliations adding that untied and promised to maintain peace.

According to their group chairman Simon Ng'ang'a, this day was planned after the Supreme Court upheld the election of President Kenyatta and his deputy.

“Even though the mechanics industry was comprised of Kenyans from different ethnic and political backgrounds, they had decided to forge ahead and work to better their lives,” Ng'ang'a said.

Ng'ang'a said they had together found the voice of reason and not to be divided by politicians for political reasons and instead empower themselves economically.

"We are all united in calling for peaceful coexistence among all Kenyans and we have shown by example by staying united even after the chaotic and tiresome electioneering period," he said.

His sentiments were echoed by his deputy Simon Kimani who said they had demonstrated that working together and united by a common bond promotes peaceful coexistence among all Kenyans.

"We believe in working together regardless of our political backing because as the President said it is time to work now that elections are over," he said.

And in the Central Business District, residents trooped to hotels and restaurants to watch the proceedings of the swearing-in ceremony in Nairobi.

"We are watching what is happening then thereafter we will take our families to a boat ride in Lake Naivasha since today is a holiday", said a jubilant resident Mary Mwihaki.
