Naivasha town residents have threatened to sue the county government of over what they claimed its failure to upgrade roads in the town.

Motorists on the other hand have appealed to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to help address the poor drainage in the area saying some of their vehicles have been swept away by flood waters.

On Thursday, they said their plans to take legal action stalled after the county authorities promised to address the issue.

“We have been looking into the issue for a long time and we had earlier promised to go to court but the county government sent representatives saying they will address the issue. However, they were lying to us and it seems that eventually we will have to sue them,” said Kevin Maina in Naivasha on Thursday.

The town, which has been experiencing heavy floods for the last three days due to the ongoing heavy downpour.

The most affected area is the CBD where the rain water takes at least three hours before it can subside.

“We have been forced to close our businesses just before the rains start because we are afraid that once it starts raining we cannot be able to go back home and this poses a great challenge,” said Mary Waceke.

Aggrey Mwangi , a vendor, said his goods are often swept away by water whenever it rains.

“There should be adequate mechanism to address the stagnant water problem in the area. Otherwise it is affecting our business and we cannot be able to operate normally,” he added.
