A 35-year-old man charged with robbery with violence by a Naivasha court has been released on a Sh2 million bond.
Geoffrey Kamau Hinga appeared before Ag. principal magistrate Esther Kimilu charged that on the April 9, 2015 at Maili Mbili along the Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road together with others not before court.
The accused is reported to have violently robbed John Waitathu Kamau of a lorry full of fertilizer.
The Mitsubishi motor vehicle registration number KBU 310E was valued at Sh4.6million and was transporting fertilizer worth Sh704,000.
The court was told the accused and his accomplices also allegedly stole from Kamau Sh2400, a phone battery and memory card all valued at Sh1,300.
The prosecution told the court that Kamau was transporting the fertilizer from Mombasa to Nyahururu when he was stopped by the robbers who were allegedly armed with a pistol and machetes at around 8pm.
He was forced to disembark and two of the robbers reportedly commandeered the lorry while others tied him up with a rope, blindfolded him and left in a thicket using a motorbike.
Kamau managed to untie himself hours later and reported the matter at the Naivasha police station.
Officers in Karatina where the lorry was heading were alerted and managed to intercept the lorry at Thigathi village in Nyeri.
Hinga was arrested in the incident that saw his other accomplices escape into the nearby coffee plantations.
The case will be heard on the May 28, 2015.
